Sweet a novel by Emmy Laybourne is about a cruise that people will literally die for. On this cruise scientists have come up a sweetener that you can put on anything and lose weight. This revolutionary sweetener is named Solu. This celebrity filled cruise is the biggest thing since the Titanic and promises to drop 5% of the passengers body weight while on this cruise. However, Laurel is already starting to regret ever accepting her invitation. For one she's too seasick to even try Solu and she even barfed all over the hottest guy in the world; Tom Fiorelli. Tom is the host of the Solu cruise and is expected to do many things will aboard the ship such as engage in a fake relationship with the world's hottest tv star in order to get rid of his childhood image as "Baby TomTom". But once he sees the deadly side effects of Solu Tom finds himself attracted to a different girl and in the end is determined to save her.
I won't lie I was starting to get a little sick and tired of the contemporary style of writing you know the classic boy next door, girl falls in love with him, and happily ever after. But Sweet is nothing like that of course they have their romance but it was like a refresher, something different, but in a good way. Sweet was so good and intense, while reading it I had to set it down and remind myself that it's only a book, it was that good! Laybourne did a fantastic job of creating such vivid images and relatable characters you couldn't help but feel like you were right there on the cruise and in the action. I definitely would recommend Sweet to anyone looking for a refreshing outlook on contemporary writing or just need a book that literally kicks butt!
